Chicago Hit-and-Run Driver Charged with Reckless Homicide

February 28, 2011 - A Chicago man who killed 2 people in a hit and run accident in 2010 was charged with several crimes on Thursday. According to a report at the Chicago Tribune, the 24-year-old man has been charged with reckless homicide in addition to charges related to leaving the scene of an accident and driving a stolen car.

The hit and run accident occurred on Nov. 26, 2010 on West Addison Street in Chicago. Prosecutors say the 24-year-old driver was speeding down West Addison in a stolen car, although his exact speed was not disclosed. The man ran a red light and crashed into an Eagle Talon sedan. After the crash, the driver fled the scene on foot, even though he suffered serious personal injuries. He was arrested shortly later.

Two people in the Eagle Talon were killed in the Chicago hit and run accident, including a 52-year-old woman and a 51-year-old man. The hit and run driver was transported to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. After receiving life-saving treatment, he was moved to a rehabilitation center for further treatment. He was arrested at this rehabilitation center and taken in front of a Cook County judge, who ordered him to be held on $600,000 bail. His next court date has not yet been set.
