Chicago Drunk Driver Pleads Guilty For Sept. Crash

March 10, 2011 - The man who seriously injured an FBI agent in a fiery crash car last September will escape jail time after pleading guilty to aggravated drunk driving. As reported at the Chicago Breaking News Center, the driver received 2 years of probation and 100 hours of community service at his sentencing on Tuesday.

The charges stem from a DUI accident that occurred in the early morning hours of Sept. 6, 2010. The victim, an FBI agent, was on her way to run in a half marathon when her car was hit head-on on Thatcher Avenue in River Grove. The driver who caused the DUI accident, a 21-year-old man, was driving nearly 70 miles per hour at the time of the car crash, according to the Assistant State Attorney. Even though he was under the age of 21 at the time, the driver was intoxicated and had a blood-alcohol content well above the legal limit of 0.08. After the car crash, the vehicles burst into flames.

The victim suffered serious personal injuries and has already had 5 surgeries since September. In court, she told the judge that she expects her recovery to take at least another 18 months. Due to the severity of her broken bones, she must use a wheelchair for the time being. During the court hearting, the driver used an interpreter to apologize for his role in the DUI crash.
