Ambulance and SUV Crash in Englewood

February 21, 2011 - A collision between a Chicago Fire Department ambulance and an SUV injured 6 people over the weekend. According to a report at the Chicago Tribune, the crash in Englewood occurred around 2 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.

The Chicago Police Department is still investigating the collision, but initial reports indicate that the ambulance was traveling down Morgan Street when it crashed head-on into an SUV at the intersection with 74^th Street. Pictures from the scene show that both the ambulance and the white SUV sustained serious front-end damage in the accident; the SUV also crashed into a light pole after colliding with the ambulance.

The ambulance was transporting a patient at the time of the crash, and it had both its sirens and lights activated. There were 5 people inside the ambulance at the time of the accident, including 2 EMTs, a patient, and 2 of the patient's relatives. All 5 of the passengers suffered personal injuries. The civilians were transported to St. Bernard Hospital, while the EMTs received treatment at University of Chicago Medical Center. All of the victims are expected to survive. The driver of the SUV was not seriously injured, but he or she was treated at Advocate Christ Medical Center for minor injuries. The identities of the victims have not been released.
