If a patient is admitted to the emergency room, the heart attack is typically treated with medication. Some of the types of medication that may be used include:

• Clot-busting;
• Nitroglycerine;
• Beta blockers; and
• Thrombolytics.

Treatment may also include coronary bypass surgery or percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA). Of course, with any type of invasive procedure such as these, there are inherent risks involved. Physicians must be careful in diagnosing a medical condition and informing a patient of the risks.

Signs and Symptoms of a Heart Attack

While not all heart attacks exhibit the same symptoms, if you did go to an emergency room experiencing the typical symptoms of a heart attack, but your attack was still undiagnosed, then you may have grounds for a medical malpractice claim.

Some of the common signs and symptoms of a heart attack include:

• Chest pain;
• Chest discomfort (fullness, squeezing or pressure);
• Shortness of breath;
