Chicago Gadolinium Claims (Part B)

Overview of Nephrogenic Systemic Fibrosis (NSF)

NSF is also known as Nephrogenic Fibrosing Demopathy (NFD). The symptoms for NSF will sometimes manifest a few days after exposure to gadolinium, but sometimes they don't manifest until several months later.

Some of the common symptoms found in patients who have NSF include:

  • high blood pressure;
  • yellow plaque near the eyes;
  • calcification of soft tissues;
  • hard or rough skin;
  • deep bone pain in the ribs and hips;
  • patches of red or darkened skin;
  • muscle weakness;
  • symmetrical skin lesions;
  • sharp pain, itching and/or burning in the affected areas; and
  • restricted joint movement (because of skin thickening around the joints).

NSF may progress slowly, eventually leading to severe stiffness in the joints, or it can progress quickly with severe complications and even death.

Treatment for Nephrogenic Systemic Fibrosis

Unfortunately, there is no consistent treatment for NSF.
Sometimes symptoms can be improved with drug therapies, oral steroids or physical therapy. In fact, the disease has reversed itself in some patients. But other patients may see no improvement, which can lead to further medical complications.

Claims Associated with
Nephrogenic Systemic Fibrosis

If you have been injured in some form or fashion from gadolinium, you have a number of claims options, depending on how you sustained the injury. You'll have to talk with a Chicago injury lawyer to be sure of how to proceed in your case.

If you have been diagnosed with nephrogenic systemic fibrosis related to the use of gadolinium, you may be eligible to file a Chicago personal injury claim. If inadequate warnings and instructions were provided with the gadolinium, you might be eligible to file a Chicago product liability claim.

If your healthcare provider failed to inform you of the risks associated with gadolinium and you were injured because of it, you may be eligible to file a Chicago medical malpractice claim.
