Wrongful death settlement against oral surgeon

We reached a policy limits settlement with an oral surgeon and his practice group. The 53 year old female patient went in for tooth extractions. She was sedated for the procedure and while being sedated, she suffered multiple episodes of oxygen desaturation. The suit claimed that oral surgeon failed to properly resuscitate the patient in that he failed to timely begin to intubate the patient and failed to administer reversal drugs to counteract the effects of the sedative agents. The patient was survived by her husband and four adult children. (Kankakee County)
