Wrist fracture results in underinsured motorist claim settlement

Our 19-year old client was a passenger in a car driven by a friend who was insured for the state minimum of $20,000.  The driver made a left turn in front of an oncoming vehicle, resulting in a car crash.  The client suffered a fractured wrist which was placed in a cast that night in the emergency room.  After the insurance company for the at-fault driver offered a settlement of the $20,000 policy limits, we pursued an underinsured motorist claim through the policy issued to the client's parents.  The underinsured motorist claim was settled for an additional $40,000, resulting in a total settlement of $60,000 for the injured client.  (Kane County)
