Winnetka Teen Charged in Hit-and-Run Accident

May 17, 2010 - A teenager from the Chicago suburb of Winnetka is facing charges in connection with a hit-and-run accident that left a fellow teen in serious condition. According to reports at ABC 7 Chicago, an 18-year-old female hit a pedestrian with her car and then fled the scene. The accident occurred shortly after 4 p.m. on Friday.

Police say the unidentified victim, a 16-year-old girl, was crossing the street at Winnetka Avenue and Greenbay Road when she was hit by a car. The driver did not stop, according to witnesses. Police have not said how they connected Erin Hughes to the hit-and-run accident, but she was arrested over the weekend and is now facing a variety of charges, including not reporting an injury accident.

The victim is still in very serious condition. She underwent brain surgery after the pedestrian accident and has yet to emerge from critical condition at a local hospital. There's no word yet on the 18-year-old driver's court date. More information will be added if and when it becomes available.
