Winnetka Teen Charged in Hit-and-Run Accident Released From Jail

May 20, 2010 - The teenager who hit a classmate with her car and then fled the scene has been released from jail on bond. According to reports at NBC 7 Chicago, an 18-year-old female posted bond on Wednesday thanks to a gift from an anonymous donor. The 18-year-old was behind the wheel of her car last Friday afternoon when she struck a 16-year-old female. Although the 18-year-old admitted to police that she saw the victim lying in the road, she drove off and went home, where she was arrested a short time later.

The 18-year-old female has been held at the Cook County Jail since Friday because her family was unable to come up with the financial resources to pay 10% of the bail, which amounts to $50,000. An anonymous woman contacted the woman's lawyer on Wednesday and donated $50,000 to get her out of jail. The donor's identity has not been released, but she apparently lives in Winnetka and has two children around 18-years-old.

The 16-year-old victim has undergone a number of brain surgeries since the car accident and is now in stable condition, but the extent of her brain injury is not yet known.
