Wilmette Driver Held on $2 Million Bond

July 7, 2010 - The 20-year-old driver who caused a car accident that killed two teenagers last week is being held on $2 million bond. According to reports at CBS2 Chicago, the driver was not present at his bond hearing on Wednesday because he is still being treated for his personal injuries, including a broken ankle, at the hospital.

Police say the driver and his friends drank an entire bottle of vodka in the immediate hours before the fatal car accident. After finishing the vodka, the 20-year-old driver got behind the wheel and drove his car into a tree on Sheridan Road in Wilmette. The car accident occurred at approximately 2:30 a.m. last Monday morning. Two girls, ages 16 and 18, were killed in the accident and another 16-year-old girl was injured. This victim is still in the hospital, where her condition is currently unknown.

The driver is facing charges of reckless homicide, aggravated drunk driving, speeding, driving without insurance and improper lane usage. Judge Marcia Orr presided over the bond hearing; the driver is due back in court on July 13.
