Two left turns, two wrongful death motorcycle accidents

There were two wrongful death motorcycle accidents last week.  One happened in Pennsylvania, the other in North Carolina.  This is what happened:

In Pennsylvania, a college student was driving west and was hit by a eastbound vehicle which was making a left turn into a driveway.  He was thrown from his bike and killed.

In North Carolina, a volunteer firefighter was killed when a SUV made a left hand turn in front of him, causing a wrongful death motorcycle accident.

Two accidents, miles apart, happening on the same day under the same circumstances: cars failing to yield the right-of-way to motorcycle riders.

As the warm weather returns to the Chicago area, motorcycles will be returning to the road in larger numbers.  After the winter-long absence from the roads, drivers will not be attuned to looking for their presence, and we can expect that there will be additional motorcycle accidents caused by drivers failing to yield the right-of-way.
