There are several frequent causes of
auto accidents in Illinois. Drivers get distracted and fail to notice red lights, pedestrians crossing a street, or other vehicles in adjacent lanes. Often, crashes occur when a vehicle is traveling too fast. Many others involve inclement weather or unsafe road conditions. The common factor among all of these accident causes is that the drivers were not intending to become involved in a wreck. This does not seem to be the case in a recent SUV accident in Little Village Illinois.
But believe it or not, sometimes people get hurt (or killed) because of a driver who
intentionally tries to cause a motor vehicle collision.
That was reportedly the case in a
weekend crash involving a pair of sport utility vehicles that killed two people and injured four others in Cook County. The incident happened early on Saturday morning around 3:30am in the Little Village neighborhood of Chicago. A 1994 Chevy Suburban was driving near the intersection of Western and Archer Avenues
near McKinley Park when it attempted to ram a 2004 Ford Expedition. The driver of the Suburban lost control of the vehicle, and it rolled over violently into a parkway,
knocking down traffic signs and trees in the process. A 19-year old man and a 20-year old man lost their lives in the crash, and
four other male occupants had to be hospitalized. Neither of the two people in the Expedition were hurt.
None of the media reports clarifies whether the driver of the Suburban was one of the two men who perished in the
crash. If the driver is still alive, he could become the target of a wrongful death lawsuit filed by surviving family members of the two deceased young men. In addition, the three injured passengers could also file personal injury lawsuits against the driver. Since the Suburban driver intentionally tried to collide with the Expedition (a fact which was presumably established by the two people in the Expedition), the liability in this incident is pretty well established.
