September 2, 2010 - Several good samaritans are credited with possibly saving the lives of two young children after a car accident on Saturday. According to a report at the Chicago Breaking News Center, the children were driving in a Cadillac car when the driver suddenly lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a utility pole then caught on fire. The car accident occurred shortly before 7 p.m. on Saturday evening.
Police say the Cadillac was driving on East 130th Street on the South Side of Chicago when it crashed. The car suffered extensive damage and caught on fire shortly after the accident. Several passing motorists pulled over to try to assist the victims. Witnesses say 4 men broke the car's windows and were able to pull 2 young children out of the backseat before the fire spread. The men also tried to pull the driver to safety but the flames became too intense.
The identity of the driver has not been released, but police say the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The children have been identified as 2 girls under the age of 3-years-old. Both victims are being treated for serious personal injuries at Advocate Christ Medical Center. Police say their injuries can be considered life threatening, and they were admitted in critical condition.
More information about this tragic car accident will be posted if and when it becomes available.
