Two Chicago Police Officers Injured in Wreck

October 18, 2010 - A car accident on the Northwest Side of Chicago injured 2 police officers last Wednesday. According to a report at the Chicago Breaking News Center, the accident occurred shortly after 9 p.m. as the officers made a routine traffic stop on West Addison Street.

The Chicago Police Department has released few details about the accident, but a spokesman says that the officers were standing outside their patrol car about to make the traffic stop when the squad car was rear-ended by another vehicle. The officers suffered serious personal injuries and are receiving treatment at Mount Sinai Hospital. The identities of the officers have not yet been released. One of the police officers is in critical condition, while the other is listed in serious condition.

The driver that rear-ended the squad car has not been identified, and police have not said what caused him or her to crash into the police vehicle. However, at least 2 people were arrested after the accident, although police have not said what led to that arrest. The passengers in that car were apparently not injured.
