Two Chicago Police Officers Injured in South Side Accident
February 15, 2011 - A serious car accident injured three people on Sunday night, including 2 officers with the Chicago Police Department. According to a report at the Chicago Tribune, the car accident happened shortly after 9:30 p.m. Sunday night on the Far South Side of Chicago.
Police say the officers were on-duty and were responding to an emergency call when they crashed into another vehicle at the intersection of Champlain Avenue and 111th Street. The officers employed the squad car's lights and sirens, but it was not immediately clear what caused the South Side accident. The 2 officers, along with the driver of the other car, suffered personal injuries in the crash. Their injuries were described as "critical" and serious.
The victims were transported to nearby Advocate Christ Medical Center hospital. Their identities have not been released and their medical conditions are currently unknown. However, police believe all of the victims are expected to survive. Officers with the Chicago Police Department continue to investigate this car accident to determine who was at fault. More information will be released if and when it becomes available.
