Truck driver faces negligent hommicide charges in death of motorcyclist

In Connecticut last week, a truck driver was charged with negligent homicide with a commercial vehicle and an improper turn arising from an October accident which took the life of a motorcycle rider.  The truck driver made a left-hand turn in front of the motorcycle rider, causing the wrongful death motorcycle accident.

We have written many times about motorcycle accidents being caused by the simple failure of drivers to see motorcycles and yield the right of way to them.  This frequently results in the vehicle driver making a left hand turn in front of the motorcycle rider, pulling out of a driveway in front of the motorcycle rider, or emerging from a side street in front of the motorcycle rider.  These motorcycle accidents frequently result in death or serious injury to the motorcycle rider because they have little time or room the react to the vehicle that has pulled into their path.

This case is more egregious than many because the truck driver is a professional truck driver, and as such is trained to constantly be checking the road around them for other vehicles.  As such she had a higher degree of responsibility for assuring the safety of others on the road with her.
