Truck Accident in Mattoon Kills Three and Injures 13

June 2, 2010 - A horrific truck accident in Mattoon, Illinois left 3 people dead on Monday. According to reports at CBS 2 Chicago, a semi-truck caused a multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 57. The driver, who works for a trucking company based in Louisiana, became distracted while he was looking at a map and he slammed into a car that had slowed for traffic.

In total, 9 vehicles were affected by the accident. One of the cars involved in the crash burst into flames, killing all 3 of the occupants inside. Another 13 people were injured in the other vehicles. The truck driver did not suffer any personal injuries.

None of the victims in this horrible crash have been identified. Those who survived the multi-vehicle accident have been receiving treatment for their injuries at local hospitals, where their conditions are currently unknown. Police have not said if the truck driver will be charged in this fatal accident, but they are conducting toxicology tests to determine if drugs or alcohol contributed to the collision.
