Three Children, One Woman Struck by Stolen Vehicle in Woodlawn

September 5, 2010 - West Woodlawn - One woman and three children have been sent to the hospital after being struck by a stolen vehicle Saturday evening.

The Chicago Breaking News Center reports that the hit and run accident occurred at around 5 p.m. Saturday, on the 6200 block of South St. Lawrence Avenue. The stolen vehicle, a dark colored 1999 Chrysler 300, was driving down the road when it struck and ran over an 11-year-old girl, then struck 2 more children as well as an adult woman. The vehicle went on to crash into a parked car and a brick wall.

The 11-year-old, another girl, 12, and a boy, 15, were transported to Comer Children's Hospital. The youngest was said to be in critical condition immediately following the accident, but the conditions of all the children have since been listed as stable. The woman, 35, was taken to the University of Chicago Hospital, where she is said to be in stable condition as well.

The occupants of the stolen vehicle took off on foot, fleeing the scene of the accident. Police stated that they ran west on 63rd street.

The hit and run accident remains under investigation by the Chicago Police Major Accident Investigation Unit.
