Three-Car Accident in Boone County Injures 9 People

When you see photos or video footage of the aftermath of a motor vehicle accident, it's important to keep in mind that the severity of the vehicle damage does not necessarily correlate with the gravity of the human trauma that resulted. For example, a two-vehicle collision at a relatively low speed might not cause much external damage at all; but motorists do sometimes die in these types of wrecks. Conversely, a crash scene with numerous vehicles, visible road debris, and mangled bodywork may only result in minor injuries to the people involved.

A three-car accident in Boone County falls into the latter category. On Tuesday night right after 7pm, a gray car was traveling west on Newburg Road west of Belvidere (less than two miles north of the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway). Near Revlon Road, the car crossed the center line into oncoming traffic. It struck a Chevrolet Monte Carlo and then a GMC Jimmy which were both traveling eastbound.

How ugly was the crash site? Well, the news article does not list the make and model of the westbound car because the vehicle was rendered unidentifiable by the collisions. In fact, its engine was found 15 feet away from the car's wreckage. But here's the amazing part: although nine people were hurt in the accident (and the Monte Carlo driver had to be extricated from the car by first responders), none of the injuries are believed to be life-threatening.

Nevertheless, the driver of the gray car will likely be held responsible for the three-car accident, meaning that all of the other injured victims would likely have solid grounds for personal injury lawsuits against him or her. These suits could allow these victims to receive reimbursement for any medical expenses they would incur, such as ambulance charges, hospital stays, diagnostic tests, surgical procedures, and physical therapy.
