Suspected Drunk Driver Kills 10-Year-Old Chicago Boy

June 1, 2010 - A young boy tragically lost his life on Saturday morning after a car accident caused by a suspected drunk driver. According to reports in The Chicago Tribune, the 10-year-old victim was crushed between a Toyota SUV and a Nissan passenger car parked on the side of Ashland Boulevard when one of those parked cars was hit by the intoxicated driver. The car accident occurred shortly before 6 a.m. in the Rogers Park neighborhood on the North side of Chicago.

The victim, who was with his father and younger sister at the time of the accident, was declared dead shortly before 8 a.m. at St. Francis Hospital. No other injuries were reported. A police officer witnessed the car accident and was able to apprehend the driver after the collision. Police have not released his identity. The driver remains in police custody and will likely be charged with drunk driving this week.

The victim was in the third grade at Boone Elementary School. The Chicago Police Department continues to investigate this fatal accident and will be releasing further details as they become available.
