A Saline County motor vehicle accident resulted in serious injuries to the six people who rising in the two cars involved in the collision. The accident occurred on December 27 on Illinois Route 34 just outside of Harrisburg. One of the vehicles lost control on the slick roads and crossed over the center line resulting in a head-on collision. Several of the accident victims had to be airlifted from the scene due to the severity of their injuries.
In serious multi-victim car accident cases, one important remedy for the car accident victims is their own underinsured motorist coverage. Underinsured motorist coverage is one of the coverages you obtain when you buy full coverage on your vehicle, and an Illinois underinsured motorist claim can be made by when there are multiple victims from a car accidents which exhausts the at-fault driver's insurance coverage before all of the victims are fully compensated.
In this case, the fault rests primarily on the driver who crossed over the center line. His loss of control was likely due to driving too fast for conditions. Knowing this, there are 5 people who were seriously injured who will be making claims against his insurance, and the value of those claims will likely exceed his insurance coverage. In that case, underinsured motorist coverage is a proper means of recourse for the accident victims. However, given the complexity of resolving a case such as this, we would strongly recommend that these accident victims hire an experienced Illinois personal injury lawyer.
