Silver SUV Hits Two Pedestrians in The Loop

February 11, 2011 - Police are searching for the driver of a silver Mitsubishi SUV after a driver fled after striking two pedestrians in Chicago's Loop neighborhood. According to a report at the Chicago Breaking News Center, two friends were crossing the street on a green light when they were hit shortly after 7 p.m. on Tuesday evening.

The pedestrian victims, a 53-year-old woman and a 70-year-old woman, had the right of way as they attempted to cross South State Street near Monroe Street on their way to the Chicago Symphony. Both women were struck by the SUV. Witnesses to the car accident helped get the women out of the street while others chased after the SUV in order to get its license plate number.

The pedestrian accident was recorded on a surveillance camera, which confirmed that the SUV had a red light at the time of the crash. Both women were transported to a local hospital with personal injuries. The 53-year-old woman broke her pelvis and has multiple deep cuts on her legs. The other victim broke several ribs and her collarbone.
