For many parents, it's difficult to watch their kids get on the school bus on the youngsters' first day of kindergarten. That's because it's hard for parents to accept the fact that they will no longer get to control every aspect of their children's lives and protect their "babies" from harm. Instead, they have to place their trust in the hands of strangers to keep their children safe - people from teachers and school administrators to the person that drives them to and from school on that bus.
That's a big reason why
school bus accidents are so disturbing for parents. They see it as a violation of that sacred trust that they bestow upon others to protect their kids.
So there are probably quite a few scared and angry parents in Illinois today. A school bus transporting special-needs students to school
crashed Friday morning east of Big Rock in Kane County. Shortly before 8:15am, the bus was traveling eastbound on Granart Road a few miles west of Aurora Municipal Airport. The bus had just passed Mary Drive when it drove off the roadway into a drainage ditch, rolled onto its side, and stopped in a cornfield. A total of nine students and the bus driver were rushed to nearby hospitals, but none of the injuries appears to be life-threatening.
The bus was taking the children to Krejci Academy in Naperville, which educates kids with autism and similar learning disabilities. The vehicle is owned by Illinois Central School Bus and contracted to carry the kids to the academy. There's no word yet on the cause of the school bus accident.
There is a high probability that some of the parents will file personal injury lawsuits in connection with this
school bus accident. Potential defendants in these suits include the bus driver, Illinois Central School Bus, and Little Friends, Inc. (which runs Krejci Academy).
