Schaumburg couple killed in Palatine motorcycle crash

This summer kicked off with a deadly Memorial Day weekend where there were multiple fatal motorcycle accidents.  Unfortunately, this Labor Day marked the end of the summer with another wrongful death motorcycle accident which sadly sounded much like many of the other fatal motorcycle accidents I have written about over the course of the summer where car drivers have failed to see motorcycles and yield the right of way.

This accident claimed the life of a Schaumburg couple.  They were riding west near the intersection of West Dundee and North Quentin in Palatine when a car pulled  out of a parking lot and struck the motorcycle.  The husband and wife were taken to Lutheran General Hospital where they were declared dead.

The failure of car drivers to see and yield the right of way to motorcycle riders has been a long-recognized phenomenon, first documented in the Hurt Report.  The failure of car drivers to see motorcyclists can only be worse now with the increased use of cell phones, text messaging, and other forms of distractions for drivers.

Hopefully, a public awareness campaign will be undertaken by public authorities next year so that next riding season will not be deadly for Illinois motorcycle riders.
