Sangamon County Sheriff believes motorcycle accidents on the rise

The Springfield Journal-Register came out with an article last week about the rising number of motorcycle accidents in Illinois.  There were a couple of themes offered up by the people interviewed as to why there seem to be more motorcycle crashes in Illinois:

• There are more motorcycles on the road, especially with the motorcycles offering improved gas mileage in a tough economy and with increasing numbers of Baby Boomers being in a position financially to purchase motorcycles;
• An increased incidence of accidents due to distracted driving because of cell phone usage .

The article also contained a number of worthwhile safety tips, the most important one being to take a safe motorcycle riding class.
