Rockford Woman Dies In Fatal Auto Accident in Coral Township

It's easy to see how some motor vehicle collisions occur. Wet or icy roads, darkness and/or poorly-lit roads, and heavily-congested areas are all common factors in numerous auto accidents. And then there are some crashes which just leaving you shaking your head.

One such wreck occurred in broad daylight in good weather on a rural road in McHenry County last week. On Friday morning around 11am, a woman from Rockford was driving her 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier north on U.S. 20 away from I-90 in unincorporated Coral Township. As she crossed the intersection with Harmony Road, an eastbound 2008 Ford Ranger failed to yield at a stop sign and broadsided the Cavalier. The force of the collision knocked the car off the roadway, and the woman driving it died a short time later at a hospital. The Rochelle man driving the pickup truck sustained minor injuries.

The fatal accident remains under investigation by McHenry County Sheriff's police. But there were no indications of the abovementioned frequently-cited causes of motor vehicle collisions, nor is there any evidence that drugs or alcohol were involved. So it appears that the pickup truck driver was either reckless, negligent, or both when he ran the stop sign and collided with the Cavalier.

It appears that the victim's relatives have a strong case for a wrongful death lawsuit against the Rochelle man. They may be entitled to reimbursement for burial and medical costs, unearned future wages from the woman's employer, and damages pertaining to loss of companionship and/or care as well as emotional distress.

This tragedy demonstrates that even if the conditions are favorable for driving, fatal auto crashes can still take place. Therefore, it is essential that Illinois drivers remain careful and vigilant at all times - even when the chances of an auto accident are relatively low.
