Police Chief’s Son Injures Motorist in Harvey

January 5, 2011 - A woman suffered serious personal injuries on Sunday after a teenage driver ran a red light and slammed into her vehicle. According to report at the Chicago Breaking News Center, the teenage driver is the son of the Harvey police chief and was driving a city-owned vehicle at the time of the crash. The car accident occurred shortly before 3:30 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.

The Harvey Police Department is still investigating this car accident, but we do know that the 17-year-old boy was driving a Ford Explorer SUV southbound on Wood Street when he ran a red light at the intersection with 156th Street. The SUV broadsided a Ford Focus sedan that was traveling westbound on 156th Street before crashing into 2 unoccupied vehicles in a nearby parking lot. The victim, a 59-year-old woman from Indiana, suffered serious personal injuries, including broken bones and internal injuries, and was transported by ambulance to Ingalls Hospital. She remains in serious condition.

The teenage driver of the SUV was arrested and may be facing felony charges as a result of the car crash. The Harvey Police Department has launched an internal investigation and released a statement saying the teenager had stolen the SUV.
