Plainfield Woman Dies After Being Ejected in Head-On Collision

September 27, 2010 - Three vehicles were involved in a serious accident on Thursday that killed 1 woman and left 2 men with serious personal injuries. According to a report at the Chicago Breaking News Center, the car accident occurred shortly before 3 p.m. on Thursday afternoon on the Northwest side of Chicago.

Police say the victim, a 26-year-old woman from Plainfield, was driving a Toyota Corolla westbound on West Devon Avenue when she drifted into oncoming traffic and crashed head-on into 2 other vehicles, including another Toyota Corolla and a taxi. The female victim's Toyota was cut completely in half, and the victim was ejected. Police say she died at the scene and could not be revived by first responders.

The taxi burst into flames on impact, and the unconscious driver -- identified only as a 62-year-old man -- was pulled from the burning car by witnesses.

The taxi driver and another man both suffered personal injuries and were admitted to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in critical condition. Both men are expected to survive. Police have not said what caused the victim to cross the centerline into oncoming traffic, but they continue their investigation into this fatal accident.
