Pedestrian Killed in Chicago Hit-and-Run Accident

May 14, 2010 - One man is dead after he was hit by a car while crossing the street on Chicago's South Side. According to reports from CBS 2 Chicago, an 80-year-old man was killed while crossing at the intersection of Cottage Grove Avenue and 53^rd Street. The fatal pedestrian accident occurred shortly before 9 p.m. on Wednesday night.

The male victim, who was walking with the assistance of a cane, was hit by a white or light grey vehicle, according to police. The driver of the car fled the scene after the accident. The male victim was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly later.

Local residents told CBS 2 Chicago that 53^rd Street is very dangerous in that area because there is no light or marked crosswalk for pedestrians crossing to Cottage Grove. Residents say there have been a number of hit-and-run accidents in that area. Police are still investigating this fatal car accident and are seeking the public's help in identifying the driver who hit and killed the 80-year-old man.
