Pedestrian Killed By Train in Suburban Lombard

December 9, 2010 - The pedestrian who was hit by a train on Monday has died, according to the Chicago Breaking News Center. The accident occurred shortly after 9 a.m. on Monday morning near Lombard, a suburb of Chicago.

Police have not said how the train accident happened, but we do know that the pedestrian was on the tracks when he or she was struck by a Metra train running on the Union Pacific West Line. The train had left Chicago earlier that morning. First responders were called to the scene near the intersection of St. Charles Road and Main Street, but the pedestrian suffered life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. None of the passengers on the train were injured. The victim's name and age have not yet been released.

Officials are still investigating the cause of this fatal pedestrian accident to determine why the victim was on the train tracks. Several trains on the Union Pacific West Line were cancelled on Monday morning, but service was restored and running normally by 11 a.m. that day.
