Pedestrian Hit and Injured by Chicago Police Car

May 26, 2010 - A young woman suffered personal injuries when she was hit by an unmarked car operated by the Chicago Police Department. According to reports at the Chicago Sun-Times, the unidentified victim, a 17- or 18-year-old girl, was hit shortly after 9 p.m. on Monday on the South Side of Chicago.

Reports from the Chicago Police Department indicate that the victim ran into the street on South King Drive, where she was then hit by an unmarked police car. Police say the unmarked car was using its emergency siren at the time of the pedestrian accident, and they claim the vehicle had a green light at the upcoming intersection. The police officer driving the car was responding to an emergency situation in the neighborhood.

Police have not released the identity of the victim, but she was treated for several broken bones at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital. Her injuries are not considered to be life-threatening. The Major Accident Investigation Unit with the Chicago Police Department has opened an investigation into this pedestrian accident. The officer involved has not been identified.
