Palatine nursing home gets owners previously removed by IDPH from other nursing home

The Plum Grove Nursing Home in Palatine is getting new owners.  The only problem is that the new owners are not anyone you would wish on your parents or anyone else residing in that nursing home.
 
One of the new owners, Yosef Meystel, was the adminstrator of Emerald Park Nursing Home in 2005 when it had the rare distinction of being one of the few nursing homes ever shut down by the State of Illinois.  A state prosecutor reportedly stated that Meystel was one of the reasons that the home was in such poor condition that shutting it down was necessary.  Another of the new owners is David Berkowitz, who was involved in  the operation of Burnham Healthcare, a nursing home which was found to accept mentally ill  homeless people as residents without proper screening.  One of the risks of accepting mentally ill residents is an increased occurrence of resident-on-resident assaults, especially upon the elderly and frail residents.

The fat irony of this is that Plum Grove is a four-star nursing home facility which means that at least under its former owners, it has a strong record of providing quality care.  It remains to be seen whether that heriatge will be maintained under the new ownership.
