Orland Park Resident Killed in Single-Vehicle Accident

July 30, 2010 - An elderly man was killed and his wife was injured when his car drove into a building Monday morning. According to a report at the Southtown Star, an 85-year-old man was driving a Ford Crown Victoria in a parking lot off West 144^th Place when he lost control of his vehicle and drove into a building. The car accident occurred shortly after 8:30 a.m. on Monday. 

Police say the 85-year-old driver crashed into Ed's Driving School, a driving instruction business located in the Comcast parking lot. The Ford sedan sustained severe front-end damage in the crash, and first responders were forced to cut away the roof of the vehicle to extricate the victims. The driver's wife, an 81-year-old woman, was also in the car. Both victims were taken to Christ Medical Center, where the driver sadly died shortly before 9 p.m. on Tuesday night. His wife remains in critical condition.

Police have not determined exactly what caused the driver to crash into the building. Students at the driver's education school were inside at the time of the accident, but no additional injuries were reported.
