One Killed, Two Injured in Accident on Southwest Side

January 24, 2011 - A serious car accident in the early hours of Saturday morning left one woman dead and 2 other people with serious personal injuries. According to a report at the Chicago Breaking News Center, the Chicago Police Department's Major Accident Investigations Unit is still trying to determine how the fatal crash occurred.

Police say the victim was driving a Ford Escape SUV in the Heart of Chicago when she was hit by another car. The accident took place shortly after 1:30 a.m. on Saturday morning when the victim's Ford Escape was driving on 21^st Street, where she was hit by a Ford Focus driving northbound on Damen Avenue. Investigators have not yet said if the driver of the Ford Focus ran a red light. The force from the accident propelled both vehicles into a row of parked cars; at least one of the vehicles also crashed into a tree. It took some time for first responders to get both drivers and a passenger out of the wreckage.

The victim has been identified as a 29-year-old woman. The driver of the Ford Focus has not yet been identified, but he or she is currently in serious condition. A passenger in the Focus, a 16-year-old boy, is currently being treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Stroger Hospital.
