North Chicago Man Dies in Pedestrian Accident

December 3, 2010 - A North Chicago man who was under the influence of drugs was killed last week when he was hit by a car while crossing the street. According to a report at the Lake County News-Sun, the fatal accident occurred shortly before 6 a.m. last Wednesday morning.

The victim has been identified as a 53-year-old man who lived on Elizabeth Street in North Chicago. Police say he was crossing Casimir Pulaski Drive near the Route 41 overpass when he was struck. First responders were on the scene shortly after the car accident, but the victim could not be resuscitated and died at the scene. It is not known if the victim was in a crosswalk when he was hit. According to the Lake County Coroner, the victim was under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash, including both cocaine and opiates.

The North Chicago Police Department conducted an investigation into this fatal pedestrian accident and has not filed any charges. The driver of the car, who was uninjured, has not been identified.
