Naperville Woman Dies in Three-Car Collision

August 12, 2010 - A Naperville resident was killed Tuesday afternoon when her van sank into a retention pond following a three-car accident. According to a report at the Chicago Breaking News Center, the car crash occurred shortly before 4 p.m. in Naperville.

Naperville police say the 42-year-old woman was driving a van on Rickert Drive when she crashed into another vehicle at the intersection with Emerson Lane. The force of the collision caused the second vehicle to crash into another.

Meanwhile, the driver of the van lost control of her vehicle and rolled into a retention pond off the side of the road. The victim was transported to Edward Hospital where she was pronounced dead shortly after the accident. Police are not sure if her death was caused by the car crash or if she drowned in the retention pond.

It took first responders some time to extricate her from the van, and it's not clear if the victim was underwater during this time. The other drivers involved did not suffer personal injuries.

Police are still investigating this tragic car accident and will be releasing more information if and when it becomes available.
