A
motorcyclist was killed in head-on collision with a car on Friday. The car crossed over the center line, resulting in the crash with the motorcyclist. The car had been seen crossing the center line several times before the crash, and early investigation is indicating that driver fatigue may have been a factor in the accident.
I have done blog entries regarding
trucking accident cases where I have referenced the extensive studies that have been done showing that fatigue can have as much adverse effect on the ability of a truck driver to operate his truck safely as alcohol. Because of that, truck drivers must follow maximum hours of service regulations.
While I am not aware of any studies that have focused on drivers of cars in the same way, there can be little doubt that fatigue effects drivers of autos the same way, and probably worse because they are not professional drivers and are likely even less aware of the dangers of driving while fatigued. Unfortunately, this motorcycle accident and the resulting
wrongful death seems to be proof of that.
