Lynwood City Employee Causes Fatal DUI Crash

February 9, 2011 - An employee who works for the village of Lynwood, a suburb of Chicago, caused a fatal car accident that police believe was alcohol-related. According to a report at the Chicago Tribune, the 64-year-old man, who works as the clerk for the village of Lynwood, drove the wrong way on a busy road, killing one and injuring several others. The accident occurred shortly before 1:30 a.m. on Friday morning.

Police say the man was driving a village-owned Ford Taurus the wrong direction on southbound Route 394 when he slammed head-on into 2 vehicles near East Lincoln Highway. There were 4 people in these 2 vehicles, including a 32-year-old woman from Marquette Park, who died in the DUI crash. Her husband suffered a broken hip, while another woman was transported to Franciscan St. Margaret Health, where she is currently listed in good condition. Another victim suffered minor personal injuries.

The driver who caused this fatal accident was also injured and transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he is expected to survive. No charges have been filed at this time, but police have already said that they believe alcohol played a role in the fatal crash. The victim, a 32-year-old woman, was married and leaves behind 4 children.
