Joliet Man Dies in Single-Vehicle Accident

January 17, 2011 - Police are investigating a single-vehicle crash in Joliet that left one man dead. According to a report at the Herald News, first responders were called to the scene shortly before 1 a.m. on Saturday morning.

Although the details are still under investigation, police believe the victim was driving on Route 53 in Joliet when he lost control of his car in the southbound lanes. The car drove off the road and rolled down an embankment before crashing. The Will County coroner's office has identified the victim as a 65-year-old man from Joliet who lived on South Chicago Street.

Police have not said what caused the driver to lose control of his car, and it was not currently known if adverse weather contributed to the crash. Toxicology reports and an autopsy have been scheduled.

No other people were in the car at the time of the crash, and the victim's car was the only vehicle involved. The victim's family has been notified and funeral arrangements are pending.
