Of course, car drivers are not the only ones who have problems yielding the right of way to motorcycle riders, as I have also written about semis turning left in front of motorcycles, and in one case, about a driver of a tractor who made a U-turn in front of a motorcycle rider, killing him.
I saw a story in my news reader about a driver of a backhoe that also failed to yield the right of way to a motorcycle rider and turned left in front of a motorcycle. The rider survived but suffered serious injuries which left him hospitalized.
It was an interesting story to me because the rider of a backhoe sits up higher than traffic, so he should have been able to see the motorcycle. He also is not in a compartment, which would presumably relieve him of some of the distractions that come with driving a car. Still, he is clearly another driver who failed to yield the right of way to a motorcycle rider.
