Illinois Motorcyclist Dies After Fatal Crash

In June, an Illinois motorcyclist died after a notch in the pavement caused him to lose control of his motorcycle and crash. This happened just before midnight on Interstate Highway 57, near Oak Forest and Country Club Hills. Illinois State Police responded to the motorcycle accident, and Oak Forest Paramedics transported the victim in critical condition. The man was pronounced dead at St. James Hospital in Olympia Fields.

According to a police report, the 51-year-old victim of the crash was not wearing a helmet when the front wheel of his motorcycle left the pavement. Subsequently, his head hit the pavement resulting in fatal injuries. There was no violation however, as state laws in Illinois do not require motorcycle operators to wear protective headgear. No motorcycle, moped, scooter, or other motor-powered cycle operators are required to wear a helmet. The state does require protective eye gear if the motorcycle does not have its own windshield.

If you or a loved one has been injured in a motorcycle accident in Illinois, you may want to get the advice of a Chicago personal injury lawyer. You may be able to recover damages through a personal injury claim. An attorney can listen to your case, and help determine liability as well as gather evidence to support your claim.
