Hunters at risk due to defective tree stand

The Consumer Product Safety Commission in cooperation with the Gander Mountain Company has announced the recall of their Hang-On Fixed Position Tree Stands.  The recall involves the 2008 GMT 101 and 2008 GMT 103 model and includes some 13,000 units.  This is due to a defect in the design of the tree stand.

The reason for the recall is that the clasp may open if fastened incorrectly, resulting in a risk of the hunter falling from the tree.  There have been two reports of injury, including one man who suffered a fractured pelvis and a fractured arm.

Hunters owning these trees stands should stop using them.  Gander Mountain will exchange the 2008 models for a 2009 model or issue a store credit.
