How do Temporary Total Disability benefits work?

If an employee is unable to work because of a work-related injury or disease, they may be eligible to receive Temporary Total Disability benefits (TTD). In order to qualify for these disability benefits, the employee must be unable to work for more than 7 days.

The amount of Temporary Total Disability benefits that can be received is 70% of the employee's weekly wage. These benefits are calculated from the date the injury occurred.

There are 3 situations that will cause the Temporary Total Disability benefits to cease. They are:

  • The period of Temporary Total Disability has reached its maximum of 400 weeks;
  • The employee returns to work; or
  • The employee's medical condition cannot be improved by additional treatment
