A Hanna City man was killed on Friday when the zero turn radius riding lawn mower he was using rolled over while he was mowing near a ditch. He was found trapped underneath the mower and is believed to have died from asphyxia and possible internal injuries.
Riding lawn mowers have been the sources of several wrongful death accidents. Because they have a fairly narrow base and have a high center of gravity due to the rider sitting on top of the mower, they are particularly susceptible to rollover accidents. This kind of accident creates a tremendous risk that the rider will be injured as the mower rolls over him or, as in this case, he becomes trapped beneath the mower.
This inherent defect in the design of the riding mower can be the basis for a lawsuit against the manufacturer. This kind of accident could be easily prevented by the inclusion of a roll bar and a lap belt on the product. We always recommend to anyone that is considering a dangerous product suit that they take steps to preserve the remains of the product to allow experts to carefully analyze the product to determine what defects there were in the product and how the accident happened.
