Four Chicago PD Deputies Injured in Crash

August 3, 2010 - A police chase ended in disaster Sunday night when two police cruisers crashed into each other while pursuing a suspect. According to a report at the Chicago Sun-Times, the deputies were in pursuit of an unnamed suspect when they crashed shortly after 10 p.m. on Sunday. The Chicago Police Department has not identified the suspect who started the pursuit.

Few details have been released as of this writing, but the Chicago Sun-Times is reporting that the squad cars collided at the intersection of Washington Boulevard and Central Avenue in Austin, a neighborhood on Chicago's West Side. The suspect's vehicle was apparently not involved in the crash. Four officers were involved and all suffered serious personal injuries; two of the officers are currently listed in critical condition, while the other two sustained less severe injuries. The victims were transported to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital and Mount Sinai Hospital. The Police Department says all of the victims are expected to survive.

The Chicago Police Department is still investigating this crash to determine how it occurred.
