Food Truck Causes Peoria Car Accident After Improper Lane Change

One of the safe driving habits that is emphasized over and over is the necessity of checking your blind spots before changing lanes. Failing to do so is considered improper lane change and may result in a collision with a vehicle next to you. Many of these types of fender benders are minor and do not result in people getting hurt. However, some of them do cause injuries - especially when a large vehicle is involved.

Police say that's what happened in a three-vehicle Peoria car accident that injured three people this weekend. On Saturday afternoon around 2pm, a 51-year old Chicago man was driving a food delivery truck west on East War Memorial Drive and had just passed Northeast Adams Street when he tried to move into the left lane. But while attempting the maneuver, his truck struck a car next to him and pushed it into oncoming traffic, where it was hit by a pickup truck causing the three car Peoria car accident.

The 21-year old woman driving the car and her 22-year old male passenger were both taken to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, while the 39-year old male driver of the pickup truck was transported to Methodist Medical Center. This week, the Chicago man was cited for improper lane usage as well as leaving the scene of an accident and driving without a valid license.

All three victims appear to have solid grounds for personal injury lawsuits against the food truck driver if they wish to collect damages related to their injuries. In addition, they may also name the driver's employer, Bao Long Food Service of Cicero, as a defendant in such litigation as well. By law, the company is responsible for the actions of its drivers; and the fact that Bao Long officials permitted the Chicago man to drive the truck without a valid license could increase the company's liability.
