Fire at Chicago Avenue Red Line El Stop

19 people were injured, including 5 who were in critical condition after a fire on Sunday, June 20, at the Chicago Avenue el stop on the Red Line.  The fire apparently started at track level.  Power was removed and the fire extinguished quickly, but not until after several had been injured.

Early news reports are unclear as to how so many came to be injured, but it was apparently related to heavy smoke from the fire.

There are a number of different theories which may prove to be a reasonable basis for proceeding with a suit against the CTA for this accident including poor maintenance of the tracks, failure to clean debris from the track bed, and failure to have adequate emergency equipment such as emergency lighting and fire sprinklers.
