Fatal Rockford motorcycle accident

With the arrival of decent weather in Northern Illinois, we can reasonably expect that we will see more serious motorcycle accidents as more riders get out on the road and car drivers, used to the absence of motorcycles on the road during winter months, do not pay attention to and look for motorcycles.  The net result:  serious, many times fatal car-motorcycle collisions.

This appears to have been the situation in Rockford yesterday as a motorcycle rider was killed by a van that went to turn into a driveway.

One of the situations we see most frequently in our practice is that the driver pulls in front of the motorcycle rider, while either turning or entering the roadway, leaving the motorcycle rider with no real chance to avoid the collision.  The result is frequently serious injuries or death.  Our experience confirms the finding of multiple studies that show that one of the top reasons for car-motorcycle crashes is the failure of the car driver to see the motorcyclist.
