Fatal Car Accident in Chicago Linked to Drag Racing

July 13, 2010 - A fatal car accident that killed one man and injured several others has been linked to drag racing, police say. According to reports at WGNTV.com, the car crash occurred on I-290 near the Oakley Boulevard exit shortly before 3 a.m. on Sunday morning.

Police say that two cars were drag racing on I-290 when one of the drivers lost control of his vehicle. The vehicle eventually crashed into a tree after rolling down an embankment. Both the driver and a passenger were ejected from the car. The passenger, a 28-year-old man, was transported to Stroger Hospital, where he later died. The driver suffered serious, life-threatening personal injuries and he is being treated at Stroger Hospital. Another passenger in the car suffered minor injuries. The identities of the injured victims have not yet been released.

The Illinois State Police continue to investigate this car accident, and investigators are seeking more information about the second car, which did not stop after the first vehicle crashed.
