• 565,747 reports of elder abuse were filed in the U.S. in 2004, which is a 19.7% increase from 2000
• In Illinois alone, the nursing home abuse rate in 2004 was 3.91% for those 60 and older 

While it is difficult to accurately track nursing home abuse statistics, we can only be sure that while these numbers seem high, the amount of abuse that goes unreported is likely much higher.
